Yes. Because PULPchat uses standards-based
HTML 4.0, the character set can be chnaged to any
supported by the browser. Most PULPchats use the standard
iso-8859-1 setting, while other PULPchats, like one used in
Bangkok, Thailand, is set to windows-874 which renders all
of the funny looking (to me) little thai characters.
PULPchat is one of the first chat applications that was designed for international use.
Because it uses the power of each user's browser to determine the settings for each locale,
people are able to use different character sets in the same PULPchat. For example, if you
visit a PULPchat where people are sending messages in Thai, you can just as easily talk to
anyone who knows English because PULPchat will also render the chraracters from your
English keyboard.
In addition, PULPchat uses simple text files that are used as language templates. We
already have language templates in German, Dutch, Spanish, French, and Russian. If you
require a PULPchat in a particular language, just ask us!
